JANUARY AT THE GREECE HISTORICAL SOCIETY

"Firehouse Memories"

Beginning January 9, 2011, Gene Preston, a lifelong resident of Greece and a 50-year life member of the North Greece Fire Department will have an exhibit on display, at the Greece Historical Society's Museum, a variety of fire department memorabilia, collected during his five decades of active service.

The exhibit will include old fire toys, firefighting tools, play pipes, nozzles, helmets, lanterns, old photos, fire alarm equipment, old Fire Department banquet programs from N. Greece and Barnard, old newsletters, convention ribbons, rule books, and many more items.

Perhaps most fitting for the museum exhibit at the old Howe House, are items from the late Gordon A. Howe showing his affiliation with the fire service in Monroe County and State of New York. A plaque, gold badge, and signed membership cards reflect his admiration for firefighters and what they do. His hand written notes found scratched on banquet programs where he was toastmaster can also be seen.
